Sneak preview of 'Riverdance on Ice'

"Riverdance on Ice"combines the music, rhythm and artistry of "Riverdance" with the grace and athleticism of ice-skating. This new twist to the popular show brings together world class figure skaters and world champion Irish step dancers.
"Riverdance on Ice" was performed for night only at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell.




One of the Irish dancers, Meghan Lucey was very excited to be part of the show: "What an amazing experience.. a fantastic show and a fun two nights hanging out with the Olympians. I had a blast! The Olympian and world champion ice skaters are absolutely amazing."

This new show includes world class figure skaters such as Olympic silver medalists Sasah Cohen (pictured above) and Tanith Belbin, Ben Agosto, as well as Todd Eldredge (pictured below), Shae-Lynn Bourne and more.

"Riverdance on Ice" showcased an unforgettable one-night-only performance at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell .The audience was swept away by the sights and sounds as Olympic, world and national champion figure skaters including Joannie Rochette, Tanith Belbin, Ben Agosto and Michael Weiss glided across the ice to the thunderous rhythm of the Riverdance music. The marriage of two skillful genres of dance resulted in a powerful performance.

NI Tourism Minister, Arlene Foster has launched a new Titanic website in New York as part of a week-long celebration called Experience Northern Ireland – Titanic & More.


The website, www.the-titanic.com was launched in New York's Grand Central Terminal at the end of the week's showcase, organised by Tourism Ireland in association with National Museums Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau.

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster : details of a major showcase for Northern Ireland tourism, in New York’s Grand Central Terminal, last month.

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster along with the Culture Arts and Leisure Minister, Nelson McCausland, traveled to New York for the opening of a week-long celebration entitled ‘EXPERIENCE Northern Ireland – TITANIC & MORE’. Arlene Foster also met with leading American business tourism contacts to promote investment opportunities.

The exhibition, from 24 to 29 September, has been organised by Tourism Ireland in association with National Museums Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau. It will be attended by leading airlines, travel trade, media and corporate contacts from the New York and tri-state area.

The showcase forms part of a Tourism Ireland three-year programme to raise awareness of Northern Ireland and its Titanic heritage in New York. The centrepiece of the event will be a Titanic exhibition, featuring a replica hull of Belfast’s most famous ship, including interactive storyboards and screens as well as illustrated talks and guides.

Speaking in advance of the exhibition, the Tourism Minister said: “Millions of New York commuters and visitors to the city will get a taste of what Northern Ireland has to offer as a unique and vibrant tourism and business tourism destination. The exhibition will showcase the very best of Northern Ireland culture, music, entertainment and food.”

The exhibition was a packed schedule of events, featuring top Northern Ireland performers with more than 50 partners attending, including top chefs, musicians, craft workers and tour guides.

Arlene Foster added: “Tourism is now one of the most important indigenous industries in Northern Ireland and plays a chief role in our export economy. In the period 2002-2009, overseas tourism contributed over £2.1billion to the economy of Northern Ireland. During the current difficult economic period Tourism Ireland has embarked on a specific Northern Ireland marketing programme highlighting gateway cities with direct access, such as New York.

In 2012 tourism chiefs will highlight the centenary of the ocean liner's Atlantic sinking which saw 1,500 lives lost in April 1912.

‘EXPERIENCE NORTHERN IRELAND – TITANIC AND MORE’



New York, NY; September 2010 :'Experience Northern Ireland - Titanic and More'came to Grand Central Terminal this September, aiming to boost vacation travel to Ireland's Majestic North. Vanderbilt Hall will be the site of the major destination promotion campaign - 'Experience Northern Ireland, Titanic and More' which is presented by Tourism Ireland in association with its partners - National Museums Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau and Continental Airlines.

From September 24-29, 2010, New York's iconic Vanderbilt Hall was filled with the sounds, tastes and images of Northern Ireland. This experiential extravaganza saw an array of vibrant characters from the worlds of theater, music and dance transport exhibit visitors across the Atlantic to Northern Ireland.

Highlighted in this ground-breaking consumer promotion was a packed schedule of events featuring top performers, including not-to-be-missed culinary delights from celebrity chefs Noel McMeel and Neven Maguire; Renowned singer Peter Corry; Irish music royalty The McPeake Family; traditional music sensations Kintra; and award-winning theater group Kabosh, USG Performing Arts Presenters, by Artistic Director Unateresa Gormley all took center stage. Visitors to the interactive exhibit at Vanderbilt Hall, Grand Central Terminal, took their own journey around Northern Ireland and explored the delights of the Causeway Coast, the walled city of Londonderry, follow in the footsteps of St. Patrick and enjoy the tranquility of the Mourne mountains and Fermanagh Lakelands. Also featured: an exhibit on Maritime Belfast and an interactive exposition built around a replica of the hull of the Titanic.

Mr. Joe Byrne, Executive Vice President in the United States for Tourism Ireland based in New York, said 'We believe strongly once visitors experience the sights and sounds of Northern Ireland in Grand Central terminal, they will want to make travel plans to visit. Northern Ireland is easy to get to with daily flights from New York to Belfast, it offers an excellent vacation experience and is home to some of the world's top golf links. When RMS Titanic sailed away on her maiden voyage on April 10th, 1912, she was hailed as 'the new wonder of the world'. A remarkable feat of engineering, she was the largest and most luxuriously-appointed ship ever built. Despite her tragic sinking five days later, she remains a source of enduring pride in the city where she was built in Belfast in Northern Ireland. Belfast embraces its past and has a wonderful vision of how it should be celebrated in the future. This historic city also acts as a gateway to Northern Ireland where stunning scenery and cultural attractions fuse seamlessly with towns and cities brimming with the energy and verve of cosmopolitan Europe.

The Cinemagic International Film & Television Festival for Young People was delighted to be screening the Cinemagic International Film Camp short film 'Gone' in the Vanderbilt Room in Grand Central Station. The short film is the final product of a 5 day residential filmmaking course for 15-19 year olds which took place in Belfast in August 2010 incorporating young people from Belfast, Dublin, Donegal, Los Angeles and New York. The film was introduced by the young people from New York who made the short film. After the screening Oscar nominated Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey took part in a Q&A hosted by Belfast actress Geraldine Hughes.

Representatives from Northern Ireland’s tourism industry and top visitor attractions flew from Belfast to take part in the ‘EXPERIENCE NORTHERN IRELAND - TITANIC & MORE’ exhibition in New York’s iconic Grand Central Terminal.

The week-long celebration and exhibition has been organised by Tourism Ireland in association with National Museums Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau, and showcased the very best of Northern Ireland tourism, our culture, music, entertainment and food. It gave millions of New York commuters and visitors to the city a taste of what Northern Ireland has to offer as a unique and vibrant tourism, and business tourism, destination.

The centrepiece of the New York event was a Titanic exhibition, featuring a replica hull of Belfast’s most famous ship and including interactive storyboards and screens. The story is brought to life through a range of illustrated talks and costumed guides are also on hand. More than 70 partners including top chefs, musicians, craft workers and tour guides were en route to New York to participate and make this event a real flavour of Northern Ireland. There was also a full programme of lectures, story-telling and other performances highlighting the many aspects of our unique Northern Ireland culture. Ben Glover and Anthony Toner - Maverick Magazine called this county Antrim artist a 'major talent in the making'. Ben's debut album, 'The Week the Clocks Changed' draws inspiration from the creative music scene of Nashville. He will perform at Grand Central Terminal with fellow Nashville fan, Anthony Toner.


Liz Weir - Story Teller - A fascinating story-teller from the Glens of Antrim. When Liz is not telling tales of her beloved Causeway Coast, she keeps herself busy running a hostel for international visitors to Ireland.


Kabosh Titanic Monologue - A multi-award winning theater company from Belfast, that reinvents the ways in which stories are told. Performance highlights at Grand Central Terminal will include 'Tall Ships', 'Gatherings' and 'Clipped Classics'.


Peter Corry - No stranger to the stage, Peter has the kind of voice you will never forget. Hailing from Belfast, his brilliant talent spans great musicals, opera, rock and jazz.

Cinemagic Screening - Designed for and by young people, Cinemagic uses the magic of film to entertain, educate, motivate and inspire. After the screening Oscar nominated Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey will take part in a Q&A hosted by Belfast actress Geraldine Hughes.

Kintra Music Group - This new young group celebrates Irish and Scottish Music in an exciting and colorful stage show. Kintra brings together a fusion of cultures from Ireland's North West for a unique blend of song and dance.

Sephira, under the invitation of Unateresa Gormley , USG Performing Arts Presenters and The Big Apple Feis were performing with over 50 dancers from all over the tri state area, and the Pearl River Group of fabulous session musicians in Vanderbilt Hall, Grand Central Station for Tourism Ireland and the Northern Ireland Titanic Experience.

Titanic NI Experience, was a major success.. 7 days, four shows per day gave us the chance to showcase our talents. A great big thank you to the Irish Tourist Board, Tourism Ireland for giving us this opportunity, history was made breaking barriers, the Ministers and officials applauded us. Counsel General welcomed us at his Residence looking over NYC, This whole project was one of the most rewarding experiences to date.

USG Presenters was a major success due to the great talents of Sephira, Margie Mullvihill, Rose Conway Flannagan, Patty Furlong, The Pearl River Group, Mairie McVicker, and all the over 50 dancers that traveled over 6 & 7 hours to make the show. I can't thank you enough for your talents and dedication. The future of USG Presents has begun and you are all part of it. Hat's off to all of you. Well, done. And see you all soon!!!!!!!!!!

ORIGIN Theatre Company, founded in 2002 by George C. Heslin, is a not-for-profit

cross-cultural theatre company dedicated to the cultivation, development, and interpretation

of new and emerging European playwrights by offering New York audiences American

premieres of their work.

Origin has been carving a place for innovative, European writing in New York since its inception in 2002.

The company has produced several critically acclaimed productions, including the world premiere of

Rundown by award winning Irish writer Mark O’Rowe. This was our inaugural production,

launching the career of Mr. O Rowe, who subsequently went on to be presented at Fishamble Theatre Company,

The Bush Theatre London, The Abbey Theatre and most recently Dublin’s Gate Theatre.The American

premiere of

Mistermanby award winning Irish writer Enda Walsh(Stewart Parker award for best Irish Writer 2000),

opened off-Broadway and played to sold-out houses. It was later invited to play the prestigious

Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and finished at the Dublin Festival where it was short-listed

in the best production and best actor categories.

Through the formation of dynamic connections between New York and Europe, we have

presented the American premiere ofCommunion by Aidan Mathews, one of lreland's leading talents,

Crestfall by Mark O Rowe,Trousers by David Parnell and Paul Meade, and The Shape of Metal

by Tom Kilroy. We were honoured to be the first company in the U.S. to present the work of

British writer Samuel Adamson, with our production of Clocks and Whistles.

Origin is committed to its cross-cultural mission, and will continue developing new plays with our

Reading Room Series at Fordham University and our Mondays of May reading series at

NYU Glucksman Ireland House. Each year we feature plays from Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland.

The four events have been supported by NYU Ireland House, The Wales International Center and The

Irish Consulate. Origin already has a far-reaching portfolio of new-writing projects in development.

To date, Origin has successfully co-produced with the Guna Nua Theatre, Dublin; Irish Arts Centre, NYC;

The Civic Theatre, Dublin; The Irish Repertory Theatre, NYC; Daedalus Theatre, NYC; EVN Productions, NYC;

Fat Chance Productions, NYC; and Draoicht Arts Centre, Dublin.

Dermot Bolger packs into "The Holy Ground," considering that it's a one-hour,
one-woman story of an empty, thwarted life.
The Prophet of Monto gets beneath your skin….Listening to this yarn is highly entertaining.
It makes you feel as if you have been button-holed by its 2 Dubliners, who won’t let you
go until they have delivered their strange and unsettling story in toto…..The author,
by putting his imagination to work, gives us characters we can care about…

George C. Heslin:
Artistic Director

George has been an actor, director and producer for seventeen years. He is a graduate of the Samuel Beckett Centre Trinity College Dublin,The Abbey Theatre Dublin Directors Program and The HB Studio New York where he studied with the legendary Uta Hagen.

Prior to college he was resident stage manager at Dublin’s Gate Theatre where he worked on 11 productions. He spent time in the drama department in RTE Irelands national TV station.

As an actor he recently completed the Broadway national tour of the hit show Stones In His Pockets. In New York he has appeared in many off-Broadway productions including Juno and The Paycock at The Roundabout , The Blowin of Baile Gall Irish Arts Centre and The Colleen Bawn Irish Repertory Theatre (Drama Desk Nomination) and his one man show Misterman (short listed for best actorat the Dublin festival). Regionally he has played at The Kennedy Center, Old Globe San Diego, Pittsburgh Public, Studio Arena Buffalo,
Virginia Stage Company, Penguin Rep, The Caldwell Theatre Florida and Syracuse Stage, to name a few.

London stage appearances include The Kings Head, The Drill Hall and he has played twice on London’s West End with Philadelphia Here I Come and The British Premiere of Elegies.

In Ireland he has worked with almost every theatre company including The Abbey Theatre Ireland’s National Theatre, Druid Theatre Company, The Gate, The Olympia ,Passion Machine, and The Lyric Theatre Belfast.

Film and TV includes The Boxer, De ja Vu, Third Watch and As The World Turns for C.B.S. Feature films include Three Days In Dublin with Gretchen Moll.
